The Pacific Northwest Regional Center of Excellence (PNWRCE) is being created in response to the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) request for research and development activities to counteract potential bio-threats and emerging infectious disease that endanger public health. This year, the NIAID will support eleven academic and/or research institutions in the ten regions and therefore increasing the potential for discoveries of new vaccines, therapeutics and diagnostics to counteract diseases caused by threatening agents by way of combined research excellence of interdisciplinary scientists in the United States.
